Yoga does not just change the way we see things, it transforms the person who sees.
- B.K.S Iyengar
The Sheffield And District Iyengar Yoga group, or SADIY, is one of many organisations around the world that bring together Iyengar Yoga practitioners.
Iyengar Yoga is taught in various venues across the Sheffield area. Each venue holds weekly classes as well as special workshops. Find out more about these on this site.
Online or in Covid-safe classes and workshops
Our classes and workshops are currently delivered online or in Covid-safe environments.
At present most of our yoga classes and workshops are delivered online through the Zoom platform. They are much like 'real' classes that you can attend from your home. You can see the teacher and the teacher can see all the students and provide instructions and corrections, individually or to the group.
As some Covid restrictions are being lifted some teachers are also offering blended teaching with a few places available to those who would like to attend in person. Booking essential. Please ask them for details.
Some teachers also provide additional forms of support to help everyone maintain their yoga practice (e.g., class sequences leaflets and videos sent to you through email, WhatsApps groups, Facebook pages etc.).
Our next SADIY workshop will take place in June:
Also check our Events page for Iyengar yoga events on offer, taught or organised by our local teachers:
We hope you are all keeping well and enjoying your yoga.
What's on in June
Whether you have a regular personal practice of yoga; or struggle to maintain a consistent commitment, as many of us do; or just want to start to do some yoga for yourself, this workshop will offer something for you. It will look at yoga as a holistic practice which starts from, but is much more than āsana. It will offer practical suggestions about how to establish a home practice for the first time and explore ways to enrich and re-energise an existing practice.
Emma Rattenbury is a Level 2 Iyengar Yoga teacher who has been teaching for 15 years. She is increasingly interested in how to integrate the practice of all the limbs and aspects of yoga, including asana into our daily lives.
It is suitable for anyone with 6 months or more of Iyengar yoga experience. It will take place online via Zoom.

Discover Iyengar Yoga
The Iyengar style of yoga has a particular emphasis on body alignment and is characterised by its precision and attention to detail. Through the practice of asanas, or poses, it aims to unite the body, mind and spirit for health and well-being.
