This workshop focuses on Sarvangasana (shoulderstand) and variations which are essential asanas that can be practiced safely at all levels.

Sarvangasana (shoulder stand) is sometimes referred to as the 'mother' of all asanas. Its many benefits include developing patience and emotional stability, both qualities much needed in our present times.
In this workshop we look at various ways to prepare for and develop confidence in the independent practice of this pose. We will explore different ways to do this pose, variations of arms and legs positions in Sarvangasana, and other, related asanas that can be used as alternatives to Sarvangasana.

These longer sessions complement our regular usual classes, giving a bit more time to deepen understanding of Introductory level asanas and explore their relationships to more complex asanas. They may also help consolidate a budding home practice.

They are open to all Iyengar yoga students, but particularly designed for those regularly attending beginners or general level classes. Please ask if unsure.

Professional Development Days are now called Exchange of Learning Days (ELDs). The day provides 5 hours of learning that count towards the 10 hours specialised training requirement for the 2024/25 teacher renewal, but the session is not assessed in any way. The event offers a great learning opportunity for all teachers and trainee teachers to share knowledge and experience in a friendly environment.

The SADIY Exchange of Learning Day (ELD) for IY (UK) teachers and trainees in 2024-25 will be led by Frances Homewood.

Date: Sunday 10 November 2024
Time: 10.00am to 4.00pm (including a short break for lunch)
Fees: £35 or £28 for SADIY members

The theme is Yoga for all ages.
This Exchange of Learning session will focus on exploring the practice of Yoga throughout life, starting in childhood and going all the way to old age. Our aim is to discuss ways of working with students at all stages in their lives, taking into account the various issues that may arise on this journey. We will investigate teaching particular age groups, and take into consideration that many teachers have classes with a wide range of ages.

The day is an in-person event this year.

The event is open to all IY(UK) teachers or trainee registered members. If there are places available, retired or ex-Iyengar teachers who are still IY(UK) members and who do not teach other styles of yoga will also be welcome.
